"I will be with you every day, not with my body, which is of no importance, but with my soul that lasts forever."
On Sunday, September 12 we headed to Mt. Tamalpais in Marin to celebrate the life of our lost friend. Ed was so kind to drive us with Trusty's ashes in tow. A small caravan followed.
Isn't it fitting that immediately after driving over the Golden Gate Bridge, we enter a rainbow tunnel and upon exiting, Mt. Tam comes into sight?
We headed towards and up the mountain to our meeting place, Rock Springs. Several of Trusty's friends were there, and others in spirit.
On a warm, sunny day our "pack" headed into the woods.
Our destination, Bare Knoll, was about three miles from our starting point. After about a mile, it was time to take a break to indulge in one of Trusty's favorites: pink frosted cupcakes with multi-colored sprinkles!
Hard to say who enjoyed them most: the kids or Gracie! Energized, we happily headed from Cataract Trail to High Marsh Trail.
The last time Trusty skipped along High Marsh Trail it was green and abundant from the spring rains. By summer the trail is dry and yellow.
Perfectly fitting conditions for our destination.
We made our way up to the top of the knoll.
First, we broke bread and shared salmon sandwiches, one of Trusty's other favorites! And chocolate for the humans to symbolize the sweetness of life.
And then, the ceremony on Bare Knoll to honor Trust.
The prayer bells begin our ritual, awakening her spirit.
Tales of Trusty echo across the great expanse.
"For you are dust and to dust you shall return."
Rosie presented a crystal memento to each of us. A perfect ceremony of gifts, words, a light breeze, sunshine, memories and a song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uye0v9wc1aQ

We made our way down Mt Tam, after yelling out our goodbyes, leaving her to rest at the mountain that she loved so well. We will be back over and over to visit.
Looking forward to seeing you in the fall, Trust!
